[What is problematic is not the dragon that sits directly in the road that leads to the Kingdom of Heliodor, interrupting both trade routes and travelers that would flow in and out; Jasper is rather equipped to deal with such creatures, even if he is at least ten times smaller than the lumbering, scaly thing that is now rising to its haunches, agitated, claws digging into the earth. He has the guile, the strength, and the magic to deal with it, even without a cadre of silver-armored knights riding out with him.
No, what is problematic is the stranger who is assaulting said dragon in a fight that’s starting before he can properly instigate it himself. He doesn’t know this young man, and he does not care to — he only cares that he is interfering with his job, and making it all the more difficult to deal with. An angry dragon is harder to slay. He has lost the advantage of surprise, thus twisting his plans in a direction he never accounted for.
Jasper does not like it when his plans fall to pieces due to someone else’s carelessness.
And so, nearing, he dismounts his horse, armor clanking and sword ringing as he unsheathes it, stepping closer.]
What is it you think you are doing? None shall shed a tear for you if you die from such foolishness.
[ Ash doesn't take well to a few things: arrogant assholes, nobles who act like they're better than others, assumptions, and being told what to do.
And he especially doesn't like being told that there isn't anyone who'd grieve for him, like it's so guaranteed that he'll die from fighting a dragon. Please. Like this shithead knows anything about him or the things he's fought, and he snorts derisively, dodging back as the dragon lunges out with its claws. The scythe he carries swings back to rest behind his shoulders. ]
Funny, thought I heard something. Kinda sounded like a whole lot of bullshit.
[Any goodwill that might have been clinging onto Jasper like an unwanted barnacle absolutely dissolves at that reply. All the better for it, for he’s never in the mood to dole out patience to fools who cannot bother to pay even a modicum of respect to his authority, and his lips twist into a half-sneer, stopped from altogether leering by way of being indignantly amused.]
Oh, in that case, perhaps I should leave you to it?
[He refuses to be impressed by the scythe on the other’s back, nor the expedient nature of his dodge. A gauntleted hand gestures at the dragon, and the way it begins to rear up with flames wisping in tendrils across its angled maw.]
See how well you take to felling a monster that often takes at least a squadron of knights to slay. I’ll watch.
Gotta say, it doesn't really do it for me to be watched by such an uptight old man like you. But if your knights are having such a problem with it, might wanna consider having them find other day jobs.
[ Ash, similarly, refuses to be baited or intimidated. Honestly, he'd be glad if this guy just left him to it, and he doesn't even bother to look over at him now. Not when the dragon's preparing to attack-- which is fine by him, because he's already charging forward, eyes narrowed as he flings the scythe out.
And it transforms, for lack of a better word, the handle splitting about to reveal a series of chains brutally aimed to wrap around the dragon's snout. ]
[An upright old man? Who does this moronic fool think he is? Oh, Jasper’s cruel amusement fades back into a festering glower, and he thinks that if this man is snapped up by the jaws of this beast, he should congratulate the dragon and let it block the road just a little longer as a reward.
Whatever snide remark he might’ve replied with has no time to leave his lips, however. From his angle, he watches as the stranger’s scythe is thrown and changes, extending into chains and clamping around the dragon’s snout. Flames coil from its nostrils as it rears up with a stifled roar, and its tail whips back and forth. Jasper has to scurry out of the way, clicking his tongue, to avoid being hurled away by way of collision.
Unfortunately, that puts him right beside this cocksure young man, and if he pushes him out of the way out of annoyance, then.....too bad.]
Move out of the way. [He sneers, calling up a whorl of dark magic in his hand. While the dragon struggles to push off the weapon with clawed forearms, he hurls it in the creature’s direction — the chains slip off just in time for it to take the hit, roaring in pain and rage, instigated into charging blindly in both of their directions.]
