[As promised, she's let loose into the city the next day, free to gather up whatever else she might need for a new life in a new world. Given that she already has a fully furnished home in which to stay (read: Warren's house), there's really not much on the list. Clothes make up the most of it; casual outfits, formal outfits, outfits for every occasion and just about every kind of weather. And despite her freedom to buy as she pleases, Makima doesn't splurge. She picks out what she likes, but really no more than what she needs. The clothes aren't the exciting part, anyhow.
The dogs are!
Later in the afternoon, Makima returns from this extended shopping trip with several large bags hung at the crook of her shoulder. But more importantly, on a pair of three leashes are three dogs, which walk in front of her, tails in the air and tongues lolling (well, for the most part, one seems particularly grumpy), simply excited to be here!]
Warren!
[She calls out, smiling. WHERE YOU AT, MEET HER NEW DOGS]
[ In the time that Makima has been gone, racking up who knows what kind of charges on his credit card, Warren has been busy on his own. His wards are set to trigger every time someone – or something – inhuman tresspasses on his property. He needs to make sure that Makima isn’t included in that. It wouldn’t do to have his new partner snapped up in a magical cage for the mere crime of existing.
Suffice it to say, he manages it well before she gets back, so she and her new friends are in no danger when they arrive.
Beyond that, there’s the matter of figuring out how – and where – best to summon a lesser demon, and how to fight the thing. Destruction isn’t completely useless in the face of hellfire, if one knows how to use it right, and Warren certainly does. A Spiritualist would suit their needs better, but no one in that particular school of magic has anything kind to say to Warren, let alone any desire to help him. They’ll be largely on their own.
By the time Makima and her canine companions arrive back at the house, Warren is holed up in his library, though he seems to be aware of her presence in the house proper and steps out to meet her in the main living area. ]
[Yes, please don't ensnare her in a cage when she walks onto the premises. I mean, she'd probably find it mildly amusing, but it could give the dogs a fright.
At any rate, she's already set her numerous bags onto the floor, and has crouched down to unhook each canine from their leash, one at a time. They crowd around her, and the German Shepherd gives her face a lick.]
Margarita! I know you're excited, but be on your best behavior, okay?
[Margarita gives a happy little dog-noise, but otherwise waits patiently to be free from her leash! Finally, Makima's finishes and rises to a stand again, neatly folding the leashes into her palm. All three dogs turn around almost simultaneously and look at Warren curiously.]
Why would I joke about something like this?
[Her dogs are serious business, sir.]
Come closer and say hello. I want to introduce you.

It's a little surreal to watch her with the dogs, knowing that they obey her so eagerly because of what she is. Do the dogs resent that, he wonders? Or are they simply happy enough to be loved and cared for?
Not that he cares one way or another, but it's interesting to ponder. ]
I honestly don't know you well enough to say.
[ Though it is abundantly clear that she is quite enamored with these dogs, so maybe it's no joking matter for her. With a shrug, he moves closer, still half-ready for the dogs to find him unsettling. ]
[The dogs seem happy enough. In fact, there are moments—and will be moments—where their happiness appears to border on delirium, and that’s definitely chalked up to what Makima is. But this is fine, clearly, because for now, the dogs watch Warren as he approaches, falling into a sit.
They don’t seem to find the wizard unsettling at all. Two of them are bright-eyed, the other smaller one is… Well. Intense. But not wary.
Makima pets the head of each one as she begins her introductions.]
This one… is Margarita. She’s a German Shepherd. And this one is Bubblegum. She’s a Doberman!
[Big, strong dogs. The sort that one might expect Warren to keep if he was a dog person.
But Makima moves over to the next one, the one that seems rather intense, looking up at Warren with a critical gaze.
It’s a Chihuahua.]
And this one here is Ribeye. He’s… a very passionate Chihuahua, aren’t you?
[ Even with the Chihuahua staring at him with a strange sort of intensity, Warren can safely say this is the first time that he’s been able to approach a group of canines without them backing off or snapping at him since… oh, probably since he was a boy. Before James Randall got his claws into him and twisted him into something unrecognizable. ]
Do you give all your pets food names?
[ Said with an arched brow. He knows this is a woman who wants to try and eat a demon. Do these dogs double as rations?? Ma’am???
(Also, he notably hasn’t tried to pet any of them. Why should he?) ]
[Simply, like duh. But the implication of what Warren might be wondering is clear enough, especially since they've only just recently spoken about her gobbling up a demon. Ah, she should clarify, shouldn't she?]
I don't intend to ever eat them if that's what you're wondering. What do you think I am, a monster?
[Don't answer that. But she clasps her hands behind her back and tilts her head, smiling as always.]
You can pet them. [pET THeM] They won't bite. I promise.
[ Oh, he just gives her the flattest look. She is literally a horseman of the apocalypse and a demon. If he doesn’t think she’s a monster, what the hell else would she be?
That look somehow gets even more unamused when she insists he pet the dogs, but fine. He’ll have to have some hand in their caretaking, as a part of their agreement anyway. ]
If you say so.
[ He assesses his options one at a time, and eventually reaches out to pet Margarita first. Just a pat on the head to start. ]
[Margarita does what any dog would do that wants attention: she wags her tail very vigorously, and noses her head up to encourage more pets.
Makima watches this, her eyes moving to Warren's frame. She lets out a little snort of amusement; not entirely typical of her, but dogs put her in a good mood, and the wizard before her is just... treating this about as she expected.
That is, in her assessment, stiff as a board.]
Pet her like you mean it, Warren. This is a privilege, not a punishment.
[ Wow he is not being stiff about this! (He is.) Perhaps because some part of him still expects the tide to turn at any moment. He’d hate to have to fling one of Makima’s new pets into a wall for trying to bite him.
His eyes flick her way, the look on his face just as deadpan as ever. ]
You’re not even going to give me an adjustment period? [ What does he do!! With dogs!!! ] What a cruel taskmistress you are.
[ She really is engaging in a contest to see just how deadpan Warren can be. He’s reaching new depths on the regular but he’s probably about hit his limit. ]
Do you trust me?
[ This, at Makima. He glances over at Bubblegum, frowning. Fine, she can have pets, too. One hand on each dog. It’s still not… great, as far as petting dogs go, but there’s a mild improvement from his first attempt. ]
I trust you... [pause.] ...to do what's best for you. And getting to know my dogs is a part of that.
[Clearly, she's following some line of unspoken logic that she isn't expounding upon. But that doesn't matter! She seems pleased when Warren pets both dogs vying for attention -- he's very obviously making an effort.]
See? They like you already.
[There is one more dog, though. The little chihuahua, who looks up at Warren both expectantly and very... sternly.]
[ That almost seems like a threat, Makima. Maybe it is, in her own Makima sort of way. ]
I do remember the terms of our agreement. I'm not going to renege on that.
[ Even if it is a bit awkward on his part to start. Just like he's going to have to adjust to having another person in his home, in his life, he's going to have to adjust to these animals, too. ]
[It's not a threat of violence, at least. But getting used to the new "entities" living in his house--which includes a Control Devil and three (possibly more in the future) dogs will make life easier for Warren. Not that she expects to purposefully make life difficult for him, of course, but it'll be an adjustment process, no matter how well he takes to it initially. She knows that.]
Oh, he is.
[She praises the other two, though, and tells them they can be off to explore the house -- but don't get into trouble! Nigh immediately, they wag their tails and trot off, tongues lolling. So much about being interested in Warren; but dogs will be dogs.
That just leaves the little long-haired chihuahua, who remains staring up at Warren.]
[ (It feels like an insult.) He looks at her and down to the chihuahua and back. ]

[ His ego may never recover.
In all seriousness, while he doubts the accuracy of her comparison, he's not bothered by it. Others have made much, much less flattering parallels. So, now resigned to properly introduce himself to all three of the dogs, he crouches and offers Ribeye a hand to sniff. ]
[Makima would never use dogs comparatively as an insult!]

[Ribeye stares. But then, eventually, he deigns to give Warren's hand one sniff, then two. A bit of an assessment.]
He's smart, and determined, and he intimidates the other dogs sometimes. [this lil guy] He knows what he wants. And oh, his coat is mostly black. He matches your color preferences.
[ THIS LIL GUY? Once again, Warren looks dubious, casting a sidelong glance in her direction. He clearly doesn't know enough about dogs to know that the smallest ones are often full of the most anger. It's all their tiny bodies can contain. ]
I'll give you the color preference thing. We'll see about the rest.
[And yes, he'll learn that the smallest ones are often the dogs with the fiercest tempers. :) It can be one more thing they share in common!
Ribeye gives Warren one final sniff, then seems quietly satisfied with whatever result he was looking for. Either way, he doesn't look like he'll be desperate for pets.]
Now then, I think that's a good start, don't you? [The little chihuahua stands and then begins to trot off, just like that.] I bought us everything we need to take care of them too, of course. I can get it all set up today, but it's not much, since it's only three dogs.
[Only three.]
It'll be helpful to know if you have any steadfast rules for them, though. Like... no dogs on the couch, that sort of thing.
[ Warren isn't about to remark one way or another whether he thinks he'll end up liking any of these dogs — there are so few things he genuinely likes, and even fewer of those are living things.
He rises to his full height, watching Ribeye trot off like he already owns the place. God, what has he gotten himself into? The things one does for power. (They're just dogs, Warren.) ]
I'd prefer that they keep away from my books. Otherwise, I don't mind if they get on the furniture, so long as nothing gets damaged.
[Oh, she assumed the books were off-limits, of course. She never intended them to let them stray even close to Warren's library, or anyplace else he might keep less precious books, even.
But she just nods.]
Of course. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Nothing will get damaged, but they'll be glad to snooze on the furniture once in a while.
And what about the indoor pool?
[she can't believe she has to ask this question, this rich ass man]
[ Maybe if he lets her keep the dogs on the couch in the theater, there won't be room for him and he can be free of his obligation to watch movies— no, that's just wishful thinking. He did say he wouldn't renege on their deal, and that includes the movies. ]
The pool? I'd rather they stayed outside. We can revisit that when winter rolls around if they're that desperate to swim.
[ Like, realistically, he's only one man and he can only get so much use out of all the insane crap in his house. It's fine. ]
