PSL; [ was it all a dream? will i ever know? ]

[The back of one of Shinra's military vehicles makes for a bumpy ride. It is not outfitted for comfortability, and even further still from luxury. Only practicality, to be weathered with the forbearance of a SOLDIER, as it often is.

A SOLDIER and a civilian, in this case. Sephiroth sits, arms crossed, eyes fixed on a blank spot on the opposite end of the truck's interior, as silent as the grave. He only considers speaking when they're a couple of miles away from their destination: the small mountain town of Nibelheim, and its nearby Mako reactor, the latter of which is a trademark facility of the Shinra Corporation, siphoning energy from the Planet and partitioning it outwards to nearby towns, cities, any location that needed power.

That kind of influence--a stranglehold over a corporate resource--granted the company innumerable avenues of power. Political, monetary, and military -- the latter of which Sephiroth is a product of. This kind of power ultimately creates enemies, who bellyache about corruption and greed, and who would like to take Shinra to task. The company plays nice, on occasion, though Sephiroth believes it to be little more than lip service. Even so, such a facade is on display today, as he's meant to accompany a woman keen on investigating the inner workings of the corporation's facilities.

One of whom he sits next to, and he finally pipes up after a long and bumpy drive.]

...Keep in mind there are monsters in the area. I shouldn't have to tell you to stay close.

[ She's meant to write fluff. She's practically ordered to write fluff-- you know, who the popular idols are, what colors are in right now, the top ten jobs for those unable to afford schooling...

Nothing about digging into Shinra's many secrets. And absolutely no articles about how much they keep buried under a thin veneer of "for the good of all". Maya doesn't trust it for a second, and she's learned by now to trust her instincts. They tell her, very politely, that she is to be accompanied by a SOLDIER for her own safety.

She half-suspects that her companion is here with her just to ensure she doesn't poke her nose into places a corporation would hate for a civilian to discover. Can she give him the slip, maybe? He's built pretty solidly, and looks far too stoic for a flirting tactic to work.

She'll have to ponder this.

For now, Maya smiles steadily at Sephiroth and bobs her head quickly. ]

Understood! You're going to be my very stern shield if monsters attack.
